Patriotic BearTo enlarge patterns: For ease, use a copier. For grid method, copy patterns one square at a time onto 1" graph paper for full-size patterns.
You need: 3/4 yard red wool fabric for body; 1/8 yard tan faux-suede fabric; sewing supplies; fiberfill stuffing; embroidery thread in black, brown and red; 2 black round buttons.
You need: 1/2 yard blue knit fabric; sewing supplies; blue bias binding; hook and loop sew-on tape; scraps of white and blue felt; embroidery thread in white and blue; embroidery needle; 1/8" wide red middy braid; fabric glue.
Sewing: With right sides together and using 1/4" seam allowance throughout, sew two head pieces together along dotted line. Sew gusset to head pieces, with straight edge at neck edge. Clip curves and turn right side out. Fold 1/4" to wrong side along lower edge and baste. Stuff head firmly. Sew front pieces together along straight edge. Sew back pieces together, leaving marked area open along back edge for stuffing. Sew pieced fronts and backs together. Clip curves and turn right side out. Stuff firmly and slipstitch back opening closed. Pin head to body and sew on twice with invisible slipstitches to secure head on tightly. Sew straight edges of suede paw pieces to end of inner arm pieces. Sew outer and inner arm pieces together, leaving an opening for turning. Sew two arms. Clip curves and turn right side out. Stuff firmly and sew opening closed. Sew front and back leg pieces together, leaving marked area and straight edges open. Transfer lettering and numbers to faux suede. Using red embroidery thread and running stitches, embroider letters onto suede. Work whipstitches around running stitches. Using pattern and centering letters, cut out two foot pieces. Sew feet to straight lower edge of legs. Clip curves and turn right side out. Stuff firmly and slipstitch opening closed. Sew inner ear piece to right side of one ear piece, lining up straight edges. Repeat with second ear piece. With right sides together, sew one pieced ear piece and one plain ear piece together. Sew second ear. Fold raw edges inside ear and sew ears to top of head. Sew arms and legs in place. With brown embroidery thread, work cross-stitches over seams of head gusset, arms and legs. Use black embroidery thread and stem stitch to embroider face. Sew button eyes in place on head.

American Flag T-shirt
Sized to fit an 18" tall doll or toy.
You need: 1/2 yard blue knit fabric; sewing supplies; blue bias binding; hook and loop sew-on tape; scraps of white and blue felt; embroidery thread in white and blue; embroidery needle; 1/8" wide red middy braid; fabric glue.
Cutting: Enlarge patterns, adding 1/4" seam allowance all around, except along dotted lines; cut out. Fold fabric in half. Position dotted line of T-shirt piece along fabric fold; cut out front piece. In same manner, cut two cuff pieces. Add 1/2" along dotted line of T-shirt. Don't position on fold but cut through both fabric layers for two back pieces.
Sewing: With right sides together and using 1/4" seam allowance, sew back and front pieces together. Leave back open. Sew bias binding around neck edge. Along one back edge, fold and sew 1/8" to wrong side. Along opposite back edge, fold and sew 1/2" to wrong side. Sew corresponding pieces of hook and loop tape along back edges. Fold cuff piece in half crosswise; sew short ends together to make a loop. With raw edges aligned, position right side of cuff on wrong side of arm and sew in place. Fold cuff over to right side of sweater. Fold raw edges to wrong side of cuff and secure to sweater with cross-stitches. Cut rectangle from blue felt, 1 1/4" x 2". Embroider straight stitch stars with white embroidery thread. Cut rectangle from white felt, 2" x 3 3/4, for flag. Arrange lengths of red middy braid on white rectangle for stripes, turning ends to wrong side; glue. Glue blue rectangle in upper left corner. Sew flag to front of T-shirt with blue cross-stitches.
