Alyssa and Tony Baguss get a thrill out of raising their sons Lane, 17, and Neil, 14, in a quaint town surrounded by the Mississippi and Rum rivers, where over-the-top Halloween celebrations are a major attraction.

One of the best parts of being here is how close we are to water—the Mississippi River is across the street from our house and the Rum River is five minutes away. Fishing, boating, tubing, and swimming are some of the many activities you can find us doing with the boys on the weekends. There are great biking trails that go through Akin Park, a serene place with a small playground, a picnic shelter, and plenty of trees.
Tony runs his own IT business, but his true passion is organic urban agriculture. Whenever he's not at work, he's in our yard planting fruits and vegetables or volunteering at the community garden in Avant Garden's courtyard, our go-to spot for coffee. I painted an outdoor mural there—it's a steaming cup of joe with scenes from nature.
