Give your teen a couple of basic organizing "tools," namely a hamper and a trash can, suggests Smallin. And make sure there are enough drawers, bins, and closet shelves to contain most of her belongings. She probably won't keep their contents organized, but at least they'll be out of sight. A long row of hooks is great for robes and sweats that would normally wind up strewn about. Since your daughter is going to shove stuff under the bed anyway, give her a storage bag to contain it. An over-the-door shoe organizer works for toiletries and other items that would usually be scattered atop a dresser.
