It's an exercise method that consists of intense spurts of energy followed by recovery periods at a slower pace. Think of a puppy's activity: He races across your lawn, stops to sniff a lamp post, tears across the yard in pursuit of a squirrel, then pauses under a tree before sprinting off again. Interval walking follows a similar pattern: You alternate between easy strolling and power walking.
