Don't overlook the power of a good veggie tray. "Vegetable trays are an obvious healthy appetizer alternative," says Lindsay Martin, M.S., R.D., LDN, and a registered dietitian working at Northwest Hospital in suburban Baltimore. "Try serving them alongside a dip of low-fat sour cream with onions."
Food blogger Manning also believes crudités have a place at holiday celebrations and has a tip for making them more appealing. "Most people skip the crucially important step of quickly boiling the vegetables in abundantly salted water," says Manning. Do it and you can count on serving well-seasoned, crisp-tender veggies. We recommend pairing them with Martin's sour-cream dip or this Caesar dressing version.
