We Tried the Google Arts & Culture App, and It’s Just as Hilarious as We Thought
The cool app gives “impressionism” a whole new meaning.
Have you noticed a surge of historical paintings and statues in your newsfeed this week? The Google Arts & Culture app has a new feature that has gone viral for its hilarious (and only semi-accurate) pairings of your selfie with a face from museum artworks around the world. The app was originally created to be a database of famous paintings, sculptures, photos, etc. but has become an internet sensation thanks to celebs and people everywhere sharing their results. The app even gives you a percentage of how close the match is, but we can’t tell how it makes us feel to be a 75% match to a flying, bearded man-baby…it’s a good thing beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It’s easy to do: download Google Arts & Culture for iOS or Android, scroll down on the home page to the section that says, “Is your portrait in a museum?” and click to get started. Click “I Accept” and snap your most fabulous selfie to get your matches.
Everyone in our office wanted to find our hysterical historical doppelgängers, too. We had some pretty good laughs seeing what everyone got paired with, although they definitely have to be taken with a grain of salt. Keep scrolling to check out some of the funniest celeb examples we found, plus our staff’s “lookalikes.”
And if you are in Illinois or Texas, you likely will be unable to use it for legal reasons, but you may be able to use a workaround.
