Is there anything worse than showing up to work after getting only three to four hours of sleep the night before? Downing that venti triple espresso latte never seems to do much, and the hazy fog you have to fight off during the day can really put a damper on your work performance.

Suffering from bouts of insomnia can get, well, exhausting, but it’s not uncommon. According to a recent study at the University of Pennsylvania, 25 percent of Americans experience acute insomnia each year. Unlike chronic insomnia, acute insomnia occurs when a person is having difficulty falling or staying asleep for as little as three nights per week for at least two consecutive weeks up to three months.

As a fellow acute insomnia-sufferer, I’ve tested just about everything to drown out noise, block out light, and quiet my anxious thoughts before trying desperately to fall asleep. I’ve suffered from insomnia for 10+ years, but since discovering these five miracle-workers, my sleepless nights have become less and less. Check out the five products that have saved me from many sleepless nights:

Olly Restful Sleep Zen Vitamin Gummies

Every time I take these gummies before bed, they completely knock me out the whole night. Unlike some other ingestible sleep aides, I never wake up feeling groggy or hazy after taking this. While the three milligrams of melatonin in these gummies definitely help aide in falling asleep, I think the 200 milligrams of L-Theanine are what really have users counting sheep quickly.

Marpac Dohm Classic White-Noise Sound Machine

I often tell others that if Marpac hired me to become their international spokesperson for the Dohm, I’d easily drop everything and travel around the world to share the Dohm’s magic. This device has completely changed my life and I’ve already converted a dozen or so family and friends into using it nightly, too. Unlike other sound machines, which use raindrops, crickets, and way-too-loud bullfrogs to aide in slumber, the Dohm uses only a steady white noise to effectively drown out all other disturbing sounds from keeping you awake at night. The packaging is not the sexiest, and having white noise on each night will take some getting used to, but this little device will have you hooked instantly.

I like to use lavender roll-on oils or balms on my temples, wrists, and neck right before bed; the scent tells my body it’s time to turn down and quiet my mind. There has been a lot of buzz in the beauty industry about the benefits of CBD, and for good reason: the calming effects of cannabidiol have been proven to help insomniacs.  I love that this oil is vegan and contains none of the nasties, too.

The Casper Mattress

Prior to discovering the magic of Casper, I had been sleeping on a too-soft mattress that I bought second-hand from my cousin a couple of years ago. I didn’t realize how much I’d been tossing and turning all night on that old mattress, constantly avoiding the spot on my bed where my mattress was starting to sag. After the first week of sleeping on the Casper, I was truly amazed by how much better I slept throughout the night—not only did I stay asleep all night, I fell asleep so quickly, which is usually the hardest part of my bedtime challenge. Unlike a typical mattress, which uses metal springs, the Casper is made of four layers of heavenly foam for the sweetest sleep of your life.

Slip Sleep Mask in Black

I’ll be honest and say that I’m not the biggest fan of silk bedding; I usually prefer to climb into a bed of crisp cotton. So, when I tried the Slip Sleep Mask made of the highest-grade long fiber mulberry silk, I didn’t think I was going to enjoy the fabric sitting right on top of my eyelids. Well folks, turns out that you basically can’t even tell that you’re using an eye mask while wearing this one! This sleep mask is the most comfortable one I’ve tried, and now I can’t sleep without it. It sits on my face comfortably and blocks out all traces of light.
