Five Questions With Olympic Ski Racer Lindsey Vonn

Olympic ski racer Lindsey Vonn shares her best tips for staying healthy when you’re on the go.

Gold-medalist ski racer Lindsey Vonn is the queen of multi-tasking. Between competing in World Cup races, training for the upcoming Winter Olympics and creating a new clothing line with Under Armour, here’s how she strives to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Q: Last fall you released your book "Strong Is the New Beautiful," which has all the details about your nutrition and fitness regimen. What’s the best health advice you ever received?
Everything in moderation. Really, it’s true. If you disregard everything else that everyone tells you and just think about that you’ll be fine. You don’t need to eliminate anything. Your body will tell you what you need. You’re fueling your body so if you’re tired or you lack energy, there’s a reason. You just need to figure out what it likes and what it wants and needs and you’re good to go.

Q: What’s your current training routine like as you gear up for the Olympics?
It’s two workouts a day and I chase my dogs around. I also take naps and get massages. That’s pretty much all I do. I’ve been singularly focused all summer. I’ve been really focused on my training—we went down to New Zealand and Chile to ski and I just was in Europe so I’ve been very focused on being as ready as I can be for February.

Q: How do you maintain a healthy routine while you’re globe-trotting?
It’s very hard. I try to get as raw of food as I can find. A banana … definitely always going to have some chocolate in there … hummus and veggies. Nowadays they usually have nice little to-go platters that you can get wherever—in the airport even—and they have nuts or something. The fewer ingredients, the better.

Q: What about exercising on the go?
I always bring my TheraBand and my Vyper—a vibrating foam roller. I need to flush my legs out after I travel so that’s why I bring the Vyper and then I always need to keep my legs going so I bring my TheraBand. I do all my glute exercises and some squats and stuff and make sure that everything’s turned on and working.

Q: What makes you excited to partner with Bounty right now?
I use it all the time! Unfortunately, my dogs are not completely housetrained and I’m always on the run and I need to be able to clean up their messes really quick. I would like to think that I ski quickly down the mountain and I also pick up spills quickly.

Q: Bonus: Is there anything you wish more people knew about you?
I’m just a normal, dorky girl from Minnesota and I’m the same person that I always have been. It’s a weird thing—people think that I’m different than I am, but I’m really pretty normal. I just ski fast, that’s all. I’m normal and I go 90 miles an hour.

Q: Bonus: What’s your favorite pump-up workout music?
I’m a big rap person. There’s an occasional Demi Lovato confidence song, but otherwise it’s very much about rap.
