There are three types of eucalyptus you’re most likely to find at your florist:

  • Silver Dollar has 1- to 2-inch matte gray and blue circular leaves and flexible branches, making it ideal for wreaths and decorative treatments.
  • Baby Blue has circular blue-green leaves that tightly hug the branch and are more densely packed.
  • Willow leaves are light and feathery with a shape similar to a long chili pepper, but they still have the characteristic eucalyptus color.

What you'll need:

  • Three 1/2” x 36” wooden dowels
  • Scissors
  • Fresh cut eucalyptus

Tie dowels together on both sides with one piece of yarn, evenly spacing them out about 8 inches apart. Secure bunches of eucalyptus together with yarn. Tie eucalyptus bunches onto dowels.

Three ways to display eucalyptus:

Fresh
Cut the stems at an angle before putting in water, and re-cut every few days. Eucalyptus Baby Bundle, williams-sonoma.com, $15 for a 1-pound bundle

Dried
Keep the stems out of water. They will dry on their own and last a long time if handled carefully.

Preserved
Leaves will stay soft and pliant for years, though they are a darker color. Spiral Eucalyptus Branches, westelm.com, $19
