Good news for TV lovers, and bad news for people with anything to get done in June: There's lots of great viewing arriving on Netflix this month.
The biggest release is season 3 of Orange Is the New Black, available to stream on June 12. While the Emmy-nominated series supposedly revolves around Piper Chapman (played by Taylor Schilling), the real strength of the show lies in the hilarious, diverse ensemble cast populating Litchfield Prison. This season picks up after last year's tumultuous finale, with Rosa and the venomous Vee breaking out of prison (but perhaps only one of them surviving the escape), and Piper's on-again, off-again girlfriend Alex Vause returning to Litchfield. We can expect a little lighter fare than last season, with themes of motherhood explored throughout.
On your next movie night, try Jennifer Aniston's Oscar-nominated performance in Cake (available June 20). She plays a woman battling her own personal demons while seeking to understand the suicide of one of her support group members. Another great pick is Beyond the Lights, a romance about a famous singer and her bodyguard beau as they struggle with the realities of her newfound fame.
If you're not in the mood for something new, never fear—you can now binge on season 4 of Scandal (will Olivia ever be over Fitz?). Be sure to check out season 5 of Pretty Little Liars as well—time to catch up, now that season 6 is under way on ABC Family.
For more family-friendly fare, the kid favorite How to Train Your Dragon is getting a TV spinoff on Netflix at the end of the month. The series, Dragons: Race to the Edge, follows Hiccup and Toothless on their quest to end the war between Vikings and dragons. It's a fun romp that any fans—or newcomers—will enjoy.
