Salted Caramel Frosting


  1. 1 of 4 Heat oven to 350 degrees . Line 2 standard-size muffin pans with paper liners.
  2. 2 of 4 Combine flour and next 3 ingredients. In a large bowl, beat butter and next 5 ingredients until smooth. Beat in flour mixture in 2 additions, alternating with heavy cream. Fold in apple. Fill liners halfway, about 2 rounded tbsp each.
  3. 3 of 4 Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pan; cool completely on a rack.
  4. 4 of 4 Spread each cupcake with about 2 tsp frosting while still warm and spreadable. If mixture gets too stiff, heat gently. Sprinkle with sea salt, if using, when cool.

Salted Caramel Frosting

  1. 1 of 1 In a heavy saucepan, heat candies and heavy cream over low heat until smooth. Cool slightly.
