Ingredients
Directions
- 1 of 1 In a medium bowl, whisk 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/8 tsp salt. Set aside. In a large bowl, beat 1 stick (1/2 cup) softened unsalted butter and 3/4 cup granulated sugar until smooth, about 2 minutes. Beat in 1 large egg and 3/4 tsp vanilla extract. On low speed, beat in flour mixture until just combined. Divide dough in half and form each half into a disk. Wrap each in plastic and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk to 1/4-inch thickness. Using a 2 1/2-inch cookie cutter, cut out stars or snowflakes. Brush cookies with 1 lightly beaten egg white and cover with clear or white sparkling sugar. Place on a large parchment-paper-lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly golden around edges. Remove cookies to wire racks to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough. Gather scraps and refrigerate. Re-roll and cut into additional shapes. Bake and cool as above.
