  1. 1 of 3 Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease cake pan(s) chosen for desired number of cake(s). Stir flour, baking powder and salt in bowl.
  2. 2 of 3 Beat butter and sugar in large bowl until pale and fluffy, about 5 minutes, scraping down side with rubber spatula as needed. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until blended. Beat in vanilla. Alternately stir in flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture, just until mixed. Pour batter into pan(s).
  3. 3 of 3 Bake in 350 degree F oven according to baking times listed at right. Cool cake(s) in pan(s) on rack 5 minutes. Remove cake(s) from pan(s) to cool. Makes: one 13 x 9 x 2-inch cake; two 8-inch round or two 9-inch round cakes; two 6 1/2-cup ring cakes; or one 10 x 2-inch round cake or springform cake.
