Mother's Gingerbread

  1. 1 of 4 Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease and flour 8- or 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. 2 of 4 Sift flour, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, soda and salt into a bowl. Beat sugar, shortening in a second bowl until creamy. Beat in eggs, then molasses. Beat in flour mixture alternately with boiling water until blended. Pour into pan.
  3. 3 of 4 Bake at 375 degrees F, 25 to 30 minutes.
  4. 4 of 4 Cut in squares; pipe on bows. Makes 16 squares.
