  • With a knife, cut away skin and white pith from orange. Quarter orange, following lines of sections. Coarsely chop quarters. Transfer to a large pitcher. Add apple, red wine, orange juice and superfine sugar; stir. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours.

  • Just before serving, stir in lemon-lime soda.

For White Sangria:

  • Replace Granny Smith apple with white peach, and red wine with inexpensive white wine or champagne. Omit the superfine sugar. Let flavors mellow as above, then add 2 cans ginger ale.
