Easter Basket Cake

Make basket handle:

  1. 1 of 4 On well-floured surface, roll cookie dough out to 6-1/2 x 3/4-inch rope, adding flour as needed to prevent sticking. Shape into handle to fit basket. Bake with cake for 20 minutes, until golden.
  2. 2 of 4 Place 1 cake layer on work surface. Reserve 1/4 cup frosting for grass. Mix remaining frosting and cocoa powder in bowl. Spread top of layer with 1/2 cup cocoa frosting. Top with second layer. Cut square well in center of cake, 1-1/2 inches in from sides and 1-1/2 inches deep. Spread 1/2 cup cocoa frosting over sides and top of cake for base coat. Pipe remaining frosting in basket weave over cake.
  3. 3 of 4 Press handle into cake.
  4. 4 of 4 Tint reserved 1/4 cup frosting green with food color. With pastry bag fitted with grass tip, pipe grass on top and bottom of cake and around handle base.
