• Brown sausage in oil for 4 min, turning once. Transfer to a slow cooker and top with onion, carrot and fennel seed. Stir in broth, salt and 2 cups water. Cook on HIGH for 4 hr or LOW for 6 1/2 hr. Remove sausages to cutting board and slice into 1/4-inch-thick coins. Add back to slow cooker along with kale. Cover and cook 30 min. Sprinkle with shaved Parmesan, if desired.
