• Heat oven to 350°. Line a 9-inch glass pie plate with piecrust and place on a baking sheet.

  • In a food processor, pulse next 4 ingredients until coarse crumbs form. Reserve 1/2 cup.

  • In a large bowl, lightly beat egg. Add molasses and blend well with a wooden spoon.

  • In a small bowl, combine boiling water and baking soda; blend into molasses mixture. Add crumb mixture and mix well. Pour into piecrust and top with reserved crumbs.

  • Bake 1 hour. Transfer to a rack to cool completely. (Filling will firm as it cools.)

  • Cut into 8 slices and serve.
