• In a large heavy pot over medium, cook bacon until crispy, about 10 min, stirring occasionally. Remove pot from heat and transfer bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate with a slotted spoon. Pour off all but 2 tbsp bacon fat. Return pot to heat and add onion; cook, stirring, until starting to soften, 3 to 4 min.

  • Add garlic, chili powder and salt to pot; cook 1 min, stirring constantly. Add beer and stir to scrape up browned bits. Add brown sugar and ketchup.

  • Stir beans and bacon into pot. Simmer 10 min, until sauce has thickened. Let stand 3 min. Serve warm.
