In a large heavy pot over medium, cook bacon until crispy, about 10 min, stirring occasionally. Remove pot from heat and transfer bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate with a slotted spoon. Pour off all but 2 tbsp bacon fat. Return pot to heat and add onion; cook, stirring, until starting to soften, 3 to 4 min.Advertisement
Add garlic, chili powder and salt to pot; cook 1 min, stirring constantly. Add beer and stir to scrape up browned bits. Add brown sugar and ketchup.
Stir beans and bacon into pot. Simmer 10 min, until sauce has thickened. Let stand 3 min. Serve warm.
