This is the first in a new series of Q&A sessions with celebrity moms. We launch with Fast and Furious star Jordana Brewster. I spoke with her over the phone.
After stalking your Instagram, it looks like you travel a lot…any tips for moms traveling with kids?
Preparation is key—I start packing for trips with my kids (Julian, age 4, and Rowan, age 1) about a week in advance, and think of things little by little. How many wipes do I need? What kind of snacks will we need? Small things like that. I try not to rely too much on the iPad for the kids’ entertainment while traveling, so I’ll bring along crayons and a coloring book, and let them pick out their ten favorite action figures to bring along for the ride.
What’s your favorite activity to do with children?
I love going to the playground with Julian. They have a pirate ship there, and I really enjoy seeing him make believe and use his imagination. He makes me laugh!
What is one beauty struggle you have come across?
I get super puffy eyes and a red nose when suffering from allergies, which isn’t always pretty. Zyrtec has been a savior for relieving these symptoms, which is why I teamed up with them to create tips and tricks to mask the dreaded “allergy face.” I use an eye depuffer (like the SK-II Signs Eye Mask) to reduce swelling, and add false lashes to look more awake and less groggy. I prefer the individual ones (like Ardell Lashes)—sometimes the strips can look too fake on me. A good concealer is key—I love the YSL Touche Eclat Radiance Perfecting Pen—and waterproof mascara that won’t budge with watery eyes—try the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara.
What are your desert island beauty products?
Mascara, baby oil (to take off my mascara), the YSL Touche Eclat Radiance Perfecting Pen, lip balm and Zyrtec.
What are the best tips you’ve learned from makeup artists and hairstylists after getting prepped for so many TV shows and events?
Two things I’ve learned from the pros: 1. Filling in your brows (especially as you age) makes all the difference in the world. 2. Learning how to apply fake lashes* has been a huge gamechanger for me—I just love that they make my eyes pop that much more.
* You can learn, too! It's easy once you get enough practice. Watch the tutorial below.
