Sleeping Beauty: Our Bedtime Beauty Plan
When you're winding down at the end of the day, let your beauty products kick into high gear. "Your skin is most receptive to absorbing nourishing ingredients and repairing itself while you sleep," says Fredric Brandt, MD, a dermatologist in New York City. Put these p.m. pamperers to work on the night shift.
Exfoliate at night to avoid exposing fresh skin to UV rays. Simply add Wei East Pomegranate Exfoliating Grains, $26 for 24 packets, to a dollop of your favorite cleanser to slough away dead cells.
Heat styling and product overload can be a stress to strands. Let an after-hours conditioning treatment, such as John Frieda Frizz-Ease Overnight Repair Formula, $10, hydrate dry, overprocessed hair.
Smooth on Neutrogena Relaxing Overnight Body Cream, $9. The velvety-rich formula transforms rough patches into soft-as-silk skin in time for your morning cup of coffee.
Keep Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Sleep Pillow Mist in Lavender Chamomile, $10, by your bed to ease restless nights. The snooze-inducing blend incorporates vanilla, a scent that helps quiet stimulating alpha brain waves.
SPF moisturizers are a must for daytime. Follow up at bedtime with Olay Definity Night Restorative Sleep Cream, $25, to help undo the damaging effects of the sun. It contains niacinamide and glucosamine, which reduce discoloration, dullness, and wrinkles.
Salivary flow decreases overnight, causing bacteria to build up (a culprit of morning breath). Crest Pro-Health Night Oral Rinse, $7, kills 99 percent of germs before bed, plus contains calming chamomile to help bring on the zzz's.
Don't Forget Lips
Give your kisser an extra dose of moisture with Bourjois Night Repair Balm, $10. The thick, creamy emollients last well into the next day — think of it as a hydrating night cream for lips.
Tackle Dry Spots
Perfect for extra-dry spots, such as cuticles, heels, and knees, Boots Mediterranean Olive, Almond & Sage Wonderbalm, $9, sinks into skin while you sleep and smells divine.
You'll wake up fresh-faced, not ruddy, when you slather on Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Night Creme, $15, with skin-calming licorice extract.Copyright © 2008. Used with permission from the March 2008 issue of Family Circle magazine.
