17 Sun Damage Repair Treatments for Your Skin
How to refresh your complexion after a summer of fun in the sun.
Peels are a great way to get rid of dead skin cells and sun damage, says Joshua Zeichner, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. Look for pads or liquid versions with a combination of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), like glycolic and lactic acids, and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), such as salicylic acid. Together they exfoliate, brighten, unclog pores and reduce breakouts. Zeichner suggests using a peel once a week before bed.

Masks alleviate some of the biggest sun and sweat-induced struggles: dark spots and clogged pores. A brightening mask with vitamin C boosts a dull complexion and fades discoloration. To remove impurities, dirt and product buildup, try a detoxifying mask with charcoal or clay, says Francesca Fusco, dermatologist at Wexler Dermatology in NYC.

Boosters are highly concentrated and add a little extra punch to your skin care routine, says Zeichner. As the weather transitions, most skin types benefit from additional hydration and plumping. Fusco suggests boosters with hyaluronic acid—it acts as a moisture magnet by pulling water from the air and into skin.
A little goes a long way here: Just add a few drops to your daily moisturizer and gently press into skin.
